Overseas Relocation: At What Cost? — Part I

I.B. Hartnell

Hay Associates Australia Pty. Ltd

Many indigenous Australian organisations are truly multinationals and despite the current economic problems facing Australia many more companies in the years to come will face the need to locate employees overseas.

The most vexed question that arises when an employee has to be relocated overseas is "what should we pay him" with the immediate problem of how to find out what will be the real cost to the company. For companies already established overseas, past experience will have produced established and effective ongoing policies and practices, but for the newcomer it can be seen to be a massive problem almost incapable of satisfacory resolution.
