Given the degree of Australian business activity in Asia and the resulting increased number of Australian expatri ates, Australian companies are beingforced to establish expatriate compensation and benefit programmes. As any company having expatriates knows this can be a most complicated and frustrating area. What to do about salary, what sort of housing should be provided, how to handle taxes, what allowances should be paid, how often should home leave be granted and so on are all matters that have to be resolved. Companies can overcome many of the headaches and heartaches by simply doing some basic spade work and communicating.
